Pst Glen The Word & Breath of God – Part 9

Text: Ezekiel 37:1-5

In spite of the fact that the Israelites had sinned against the Lord their God and as a result the nation was in captivity in the land of Babylon, the Lord promised to “…restore the fortunes of Judah and Israel and rebuild their towns.” Jeremiah 33:7

He reaffirmed His promise to deliver them in Ezekiel 37:12 “…O my people, I will open your graves of exile and cause you to rise again. Then I will bring you back to the land of Israel.”

Prior to their captivity in Babylon, the book of Exodus chapter 1 speaks about Pharaoh’s hostility towards the children of Israel that dwelt in Egypt.

The Egyptians were ruthless; they fully intended to destroy the Jews with crushing labour but Exodus 1:12 tells us that the more Pharaoh’s men oppressed them, “…the more the Israelites multiplied and spread…”

Although they were only seventy in number when they arrived in Egypt, the Jews left the land of bondage rich, victorious and two million in number because the Lord their God was with them.

Then, Israel had to contend with many nations before they could possess the land which the Lord had sworn to give them for an inheritance.

But Joshua (Moses successor) told his people “…Come and listen to what the Lord your God says…He will surely drive out the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites ahead of you.” Joshua 3:9-10

Here, their military leader whose task was to lead God’s people into the Promised Land operated in the role of a prophet!

It is possible to be used by God in an area of ministry outside of your usual gifting/calling; the Holy Spirit can anoint anyone He chooses to fulfil a specific purpose, but once this assignment is over the person will no longer be effective in the role.

The God of their ancestors – Abraham, Isaac and Jacob:

  • Delivered them out of Egypt!
  • He opened the Red Sea for His people to cross on dry land!
  • He parted the Jordan River for them!
  • He delivered them out of Babylon!

Joshua 5:1 testifies that “When all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and all the Canaanite kings who lived along the Mediterranean coast heard how the Lord had dried up the Jordan River so the people of Israel could cross, they lost heart and were paralyzed with fear because of them.”

It is possible to be used by God in an area of ministry outside of your usual gifting/calling; the Holy Spirit can anoint anyone He chooses to fulfil a specific purpose, but once this assignment is over the person will no longer be effective in the role.

God bless,
Pastor G Ferguson.
