The demonstration of Abram’s faith and total confidence in God is recorded in Genesis 12:4
The Lord said to Abram in verses 1-3 “Leave your country, your relatives and your father’s family and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation…all the families on earth will be blessed through you.”
Despite the fact that Abram was not given any details about his journey, the Patriarch left Haran because he knew that God who made the vow would certainly bring him into the Promised Land!
Romans 4:20 tells us that he “…staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God”
Please note that without faith it is impossible to please God! The apostle Paul goes on to say in 2 Corinthians 5:7 that believers should walk by faith and not focus on the issues and circumstances that confront them.
As soon as Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, Abram was not the first in his family to relocate; prior to our text, Terah (his father) left Ur of the Chaldees for the land of Canaan however this man settled in Haran where he died. Genesis 11:31-32
Terah started this journey in his own strength but never made it to the final destination, but his son simply believed and followed God’s leading wholeheartedly and as a result obtained the promise!
The process of becoming who God had destined Abram to be required his obedience and action; this man had to disentangle himself from everything that was safe and familiar!
James 2:18 puts it this way “…show me your faith without works and I will show you my faith by my works.
It is your responsibility to lift up the word of Moses, Joseph, Gideon, David, Deborah and many other patriarchs overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice and received what the Lord had promised them by faith.
Believers, it is time to be disentangled from everything that hinders us from operating in our God given faith.
