Text: Revelation 11:1
God loves true worship and He is seeking after those who will worship Him in spirit and truth.
Consequently, the Lord asked John to “…measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.” Revelation 11:1
Then the angel of the Lord said something noteworthy to John in verse 2 “But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles…”
Here, the angel was referring to the outer precinct of the tabernacle which was built, according to the patterns and specifications given to Moses by God. Exodus 25:8,9,40
In the outer court, animal sacrifices were burnt on the brazen altar for the remission of sin; this place also had the bronze laver bowl where the priests could wash their hands and feet before entering the Holy Place.
In other words, this part of the temple represents sin and the world! The Holy Place which was the second court in the tabernacle had:
- The golden lampstand – place of illumination and revelation
- Table of shewbread – place of provision
- Altar of incense – place of prayer
For the most part, the Church is completely focused on the place of illumination and provision however the Lord said to Moses in Exodus 25:21-22 “And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee. And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat…”
These verses are specifically speaking about the Holy of Holies where the glory and the presence of the Lord reside. The ark which contained the law had to be covered by the mercy and grace of Almighty God because its requirements could not be fulfilled by fallen man.
Believers, the Lord is calling us to a higher dimension (the Holy of Holies); a place of total devotion and complete surrender of our hearts to Him, and the only way to ascend into this domain is through prayer!
