Text: 1 Kings 18:41
Elijah was one of the greatest Old Testament prophets, who executed God’s judgement upon the city of Samaria when the nation sinned against the Lord.
He told Ahab the king of Samaria “…As surely as the Lord the God of Israel lives, the God I serve; there will be no dew or rain during the next few years until I give the word!” (1 Kings 17:1)
His bold declaration caused a severe drought across the land which lasted three and half years!
It is important to highlight that the word of God in the mouth of His prophet is very powerful. Although the Lord is sovereign, Amos 3:7 states that “…God will do nothing until He reveals His plans to His servants the prophets.”
In essence, the prophetic word will surely accomplish the will and purpose of God over any given situation!
In 1 Kings 18:1, the Lord said to Elijah “…Go and present yourself to king Ahab; tell him that I will send rain!”
Verse 2 tells us that “…Elijah went to appear before Ahab” in spite of the fact that the king had issued a warrant for the arrest of the prophet (V9-10)
Often times what we need most is dependent on us facing our worst fears.
Elijah’s obedience to the Lord’s command and his prayer on Mount Carmel
(V41-45) brought a terrific rainstorm across the land of Samaria as the Lord had spoken.
Believers, those difficult situations which confronted and threatened us in 2018 are all behind us.
Be encouraged because the prophetic word that brought the drought also released the abundant rain!
As we step into 2019, may the Lord replenish and refresh us; may the drought, famine and barrenness in our lives give way to the abundance of God’s blessings and the rain of His Holy Spirit.
